On August 1, 2000, local city councillor Olivia Ch

On August 1, 2000, local city councillor Olivia Chow went to bat for the besieged Toronto rave scene, when local councillors, police chief Fantino, and the media were putting it under immense scrutiny after the overdose death of Allan Ho.

At the time, Toronto was a hotbed of electronic music and was considered to have one of the biggest scenes in the world. In the aftermath of Ho's passing, raves were banned from city property, and after a few months were permitted again but this time with overwhelming new rules and red tape that made large-scale parties no longer viable financially. This hostile approach to the rave scene by police, media, and city councillors inevitably caused its demise.

Twenty-five years later, Chow's minion at city hall, Chris Moise, is again attempting to harm the dance music community by trying to give the City veto power on all SOPs for non-profit rave promoters. Inexplicably Chow remains mum on the issue.
