Police Picnic, Oakville, 1981

The 1980s kicked off with a tsunami. A wave so big it was called the “The New Wave”. And in 1981, 1982, and 1983, The Police were at the centre of it all. With a little help from their friends (local heroes The Garys), they brought to Toronto “the Police Picnic,” an annual “Made-in-Toronto” festival. The inaugaural year was in Oakville and included an undercard featuring Iggy Pop, The Specials, and the Go-Go’s performing for 25,000 mindblown fans.
